The Mental Health Center of Madison County, located at 4040 Memorial Parkway SW,Huntsville, is hosting a free workshop on âHow to Walk the Labyrinth for Healing and Hopeâ on Wednesday, November 7. The orientation, facilitated by Marilyn Lands, LPC, starts at 12:00 noon and will last approximately one hour at the Mental Health Centerâs Board Room. Participants will learn the history of the labyrinth and explore ways to walk the labyrinth for relaxation and therapeutic issues including grief, illness and life transitions. Following the session, participants will have an opportunity to walk the 60-foot Chartres tradition Community Labyrinth located on the Mental Health Center Campus. Participants are invited to bring a sack lunch. Drinks will be provided.
Unlike a maze in which one can get lost, a labyrinth consists of one circuitous path that leads to the center and out again. Its various twists and turns provide a metaphor for life and its challenges. Labyrinths not only provide the opportunity to find peace, manage stress and make decisions, they also help participants heal physically, emotionally and spiritually.
