The Huntsville AL L5 Society (HAL5)'s December public program will be on "Going Boldly Beyond: Progress on NASA's Space Launch System." The event will take place at our usual time and place, on Thursday, December 6 at 7 pm at the Huntsville-Madison County Main Public Library's Main Auditorium in Downtown Huntsville.

Space Launch System (SLS) Program Manager Todd May, of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, will update the community on the status of the nation's new heavy-lift launch vehicle, now starting its second year of work and set for its maiden voyage in 2017. Responding to a challenging political and budgetary environment, SLS is making visible progress on its hardware design, development, and testing, with the first flight hardware being manufactured for launch on the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle's flight test in 2014. Mr. May, a long-time proponent of cutting-edge science and human exploration of the solar system, looks forward to discussing how SLS is turning plans into progress with Huntsville's space advocacy community.
