Walking Tour: African American Churches

You can experience the rich legacy of African American worship sites in Downtown Huntsville and learn about key people and significant places that have made an unforgettable imprint on our city. Attendees will discover Georgia Slave Cemetery, the original site of the oldest Negro Congregation in the State of Alabama, the place of worship where Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke in 1962, the church organized by education visionary and college founder William Hooper Councill, the place where Pastor Bartley Harris is reported to have baptized 3000 souls along with many other significant sites. There is a fee to take part in this event.
