Microwave Dave Gallaher
Talkin' The Blues With Microwave Dave began airing on WLRH's weeknight schedule in October of 1989. While the show first depended on Dave's record collection for source material, it was updated in 1990 to include interviews and in-studio performances by guests like Johnny Shines, Jerry 'Boogie' McCain, Guitar Gabriel and others, including local blues talent. Response to the live music, combined with WLRH's purchase of the MARTI system in the early 90's, allowed Dave to begin broadcasting live blues from various venues in a monthly program called "Microwave Dave's Rent Party".
Live broadcasts of the show were suspended in the mid '90s when Talkin' The Blues was moved to Saturday night; the program is now taped weekly. While the live broadcasts and studio jams are missed, the program was nominated for a Blues Foundation Keeping the Blues Alive Award in 1995.
