The arts education summer camp for young people at Decatur's Princess Theatre will explore the performing arts with sessions in theater and music including the Folk Music Camp for 7-13 year olds on June 19-21 9:00am-12:00pm. Instructors, Kay Grubbs, Jacob Frank and Emily Jones will teach workshops focusing on the rich musical heritage of Alabama. Students will be exposed to a variety of songs while learning about the history surrounding the music. Hands on experiences will include learning the basics of instruments like the dulcimer, guitar, mandolin and violin. Teachers will explain about how the instruments were made, what cultural influences inspired our folk music, perform songs and instruct students how to play and sing simple folk songs. The three day camp concludes with a finale performance Thursday evening.
