Brass, Reeds, and Percussion: March 11, 2023

This edition features more music from the Royal Australian Navy Band.

In addition, over the past month or so, you've been hearing transcriptions of music from Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen. A transcription is an arrangement of an orchestral work for wind band. In essence, the string parts are transferred to other instruments in the wind band. Today's edition ends with Gotterdammerung performed by the Spanish band La Banda Sinfonica La Artistica Bunol. La Artistica was founded in 1883 in Bunol, a small town in Spain located about 10 miles from the port city of Valencia. From meeting in the blacksmith's shop to rehearse in the 1800s, the band now performs in its own concert hall and is one of the leading wind bands of Europe.
