Count Enrico Toselli (1883-1926) was an Italian pianist and composer. Born in Florence, he had a career as a concert pianist, playing in Europe and North America. His most popular composition is Serenata Rimpianto, Op.6, No.1. Toselli's fame largely derives not from his musical ability but from his scandalous elopement, in 1907, with Archduchess Louise of Austria, the former crown princess of Saxony. Toselli’s serenade has always been popular. Originally composed for piano and voice, the serenade now has numerous arrangements downloadable for numerous combinations of instruments. Today’s edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion opens with an arrangement for big band, recorded in 1946 by Les Brown and His Band of Reknown.
