Brass, Reeds, and Percussion: October 14, 2023

In 1952, an instrumental version of “Blue Tango” by Leroy Anderson hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Originally composed for orchestra, the “Blue Tango” for this edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion is a wind-band arrangement performed by the Keystone Wind Ensemble. The composer Leroy Anderson was an organist and pianist. As a matter of fact, he played the organ for a church while he was in graduate school at Harvard studying foreign languages. At the same time, he was also the director of the Harvard Band. The band hall at Harvard is now named after him.
