Huntsville History Museum Joins NPS Reconstruction Era Network

On October 27, 2023, the Historic Huntsville Foundation officially announced the National Park Service's listing of its Historic Huntsville Museum to the Reconstruction Era National Historic Network.

The museum, located inside Harrison Brothers Hardware, features an exhibit chronicling the story of the Brandons- father Henderson and son Daniel. The two were Black men who gained respect and prominence for their entrepreneurial efforts in mid-1800s to early 1900s society in Huntsville.

The Reconstruction Era Network aims to preserve U.S. locations and stories that tell the story of this crucial transition from slavery to freedom in the aftermath of Civil War.

Katy Ganaway talks with guests Donna Castellano, HHF's executive director, and Nathan Betcher, Supervisory Historian with the Reconstruction Era National Historical Park in Beaufort County, South Carolina.
