Let's Talk About the State Bill That Could Jail Librarians...

Starting October 1, 2024, if Alabama House Bill 385 (by Rep. Arnold Mooney, R-Indian Springs) is passed & signed into law, librarians in the state could face jail time for distributing materials deemed "obscene" or "harmful" to minors.

In this conversation, Huntsville Madison County Public Library Executive Director Cindy Hewitt talks with Katy Ganaway about how the potential chilling effects of this bill could affect her, the HMCPL staff & patrons, and public libraries across the state.

This is the longer version of the interview that aired Friday, May 10. It was recorded Wednesday, May 8.
