Events Calendar for Huntsville and North Alabama

The public is invited to a 6-week wellness program for cancer patients and their families on Thursday evenings from August 7 to September 11. Weekly sessions include topics like art therapy, nutrition, mental health, yoga, exercise, and side effect management. Led by local specialists, the program offers support for physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing during treatment and recovery. Hosted by the YMCA, Clearview Cancer Institute, and Russell Hill Cancer Foundation.

The North Alabama Mental Health Coalition meets monthly at WellStone in Huntsville, bringing together service providers, advocates, law enforcement, educators, and community members. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m., offering updates, collaborative discussion, and guest speakers on mental health topics. Presented by Little Orange Fish. English as a second language classes will begin August 6 at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church. Classes are every Wednesday morning from 930 to noon. Instruction includes grammar and conversation for all levels as well as preparation for taking the US citizenship test. Childcare for preschoolers and some transportation is provided. Each Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m., the Rocket Center is serving authentic German food and beverages under the Saturn V Moon Rocket in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. There will be performances by Joe Mullins and The Radio Ramblers, Pitney Meyer, Jimmy Fortune, and Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. This family friendly event also features arts and crafts and food.
