The 21st Annual Cigar Box Guitar Festival will be held Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1st. This event includes a Casino night, workshops and swing dancing with live music. Some of Huntsville’s and Muscle Shoals’ biggest names will perform under Orion’s Apollo Dome. Vendors, food trucks and kids activities are open to the public. The Greater Huntsville Section of the National Council of Negro Women announce their first ever Shades of Purple Fun Run! Line up will begin at 7:45 am with the race starting promptly at 8 am on Saturday, May 31st, at John Hunt Park Cross Country Course, located in South Huntsville. This race gives back to the community by supporting causes and providing health initiative programs that bring awareness to the importance of immunity health. Race day, there will be line dance activities, prizes and give- aways for finishers. There will be light snacks for participants at no cost. The Muscle Shoals Sailing Club is offering a sailing seminar May 31st to June 1st. This includes both classroom and on-the-water instruction at the club site on Wilson Lake near Killen, Alabama. The Huntsville Youth Orchestra invites you to the Tennessee Valley Music Festival, June 1st through 7th at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville. This day festival welcomes all levels of string students—children and adults—as well as intermediate and advanced woodwinds, brass, and percussion students with at least two years of experience. Throughout the week, students will work closely with professional musicians from across the country, refining their skills in string orchestra, full orchestra, wind ensemble, chamber music, and more.
