Today’s edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion opens with a wind band from India performing music that reflects Western European instrumentation but Indian musical tradition sometimes called gypsy. The instrumentation is trumpets, euphoniums, trombones, a tuba, a clarinet, and various drums. The tune is "Dark Black Eyes," performed by the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band of Jaipur, India. Jaipur is the capitol of Rajasthan, an Indian state located in northwest India on the border with Patkistan. Rajasthan is where the so-called gypsies come from. Some people consider the word gypsy a pejorative. The word is only used in this post because many people may not know the more acceptable word Romani (pronounced ROH mah nee).
