Brass, Reeds, and Percussion: August 2, 2025

This edition features music composed by Morton Gould, Claude T. Smith, and Alan Silvestri. This edition opens with the theme from “Back to the Future,” the highest grossing film in 1985. Alan Silvestri composed the music for the original 1985 film as well as the music for the two followup films. In 1950, Silvestri was born in Teaneck, NJ. After being the drummer in rock band for a while and attending the Berklee School of Music for 2 years, he moved the Los Angeles with no real goal in mind. Luckily, he was asked to compose a film score for an independent production and bought a book to learn how to do so. Since that time in the early 1970s, he has received two Grammy Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards. He has been nominated for two Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards.
