Brass, Reeds, and Percussion: October 4, 2025

On September 20, Bob Jones High School hosted the Rocket City Marching Invitational. This edition of Brass, Reeds, and Percussion features comments from band members and band parents attending the contest. As a proud sponsor of this event, WLRH salutes—

  • The Bob Jones High School (BJHS) Band director, her assistants, and band members for a well-managed contest.
  • All the hard-working bands that participated.
  • The band of the University of North Alabama for an excellent demonstration show as it prepares to participate in the 2025 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  • All the band parents who support their children in band pursuits and especially the BJHS Band Boosters who also helped to manage the contest and to provide delicious food at the concession stand.

This edition also features music from the opera “La Molinara” by the Italian composer Giovanni Paisiello who lived from 1740 to 1816. Paisiello composed over 80 operas. Both Mozart and Beethoven were fans. “La Molinara” enjoyed international success After its first performance in Vienna in 1795, the opera was staged for 32 consecutive years throughout Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Born in Natchez, Mississippi, in 1951, John moved to Huntsville in 1975, where he worked for a communications training firm. From 1997 to 2022, John worked for the Lanier Ford law firm. During his tenure, He served as Lanier Ford's law librarian, marketing specialist, trainer, and professional recruiter. While in college and law school, John worked in professional radio in Starkville and Oxford, Mississippi.
