The Update for March 15, 2024

In this episode (#005) of The Update, we'll get ready for St. Patrick's Day Weekend with a visit from Dave Boling and his Uilleann pipes. We'll also take a Haiku Hike with the Land Trust of North Alabama, get live music update and review the week's biggest north Alabama news. And we'll talk with Capitol Journal's Todd Stacy to get an legislative update on bills affecting property tax valuations, Medicare, state community colleges and more. Our featured artist is The Quantaphonics performing Saturday night at Mars Music Hall.

Brett is a 25-year veteran of public television and radio. He's won more than 30 journalism awards, including a national Edward R. Murrow award and RTDNA's international UNITY award for excellence in coverage of diversity issues. He was also lucky enough to spend several years recording commentaries from legendary storyteller Kathryn Tucker Windham, which stands as one of his all-time favorite things about working in broadcasting.
Bob Nance settled in Huntsville before the turn of the century and decided that this was the place to be! He has been a husband, father, physicist, business owner and musician, but most importantly, a member of WLRH since 1996. Working with the family at WLRH is an exciting opportunity to give back to this place we call home.
Ginny Kennedy is a native of Huntsville. She began her radio career as a graduate student in Communications at Georgia State University in Atlanta. An internship at WABE in Atlanta led to a varied career as a classical music host, news anchor, flying traffic reporter, and wacky sidekick on a country station. She has been at WLRH in Huntsville for the past 20 years and feels privileged to be part of a station that serves the community. When not working, Ginny enjoys spending time with her many critters including her horse Alex.
Before coming to WLRH, Julie taught English at Huntsville High School, served as a reader for the national AP Language exam, and was named Huntsville City Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2012-13. In 2017 Julie chartered the school’s yoga and meditation club out of a conviction that the club was an important way for students to learn to process the stresses of life. She serves on the Board of Directors at Arts Huntsville, volunteers her time at the Huntsville Museum of Art, and enrolls in local art classes.
