WLRH Community Event Calendar Guidelines & FAQ
Who can submit events to the WLRH Community Calendar?
We welcome submissions from:
- Nonprofits
- Community organizations
- Local businesses
- Faith groups
- Event organizers
As long as your event serves the public and takes place within our listening area (Madison, Morgan, Limestone, or Marshall counties), we’re happy to consider listing it.
What kinds of events are accepted?
The Community Calendar is broader than our on-air PSA program. Accepted listings may include:
- Concerts and performances
- Festivals and vendor markets
- Public lectures and workshops
- Religious or political gatherings (open to the public)
- Fundraisers, raffles, and community sales
- Civic or neighborhood meetings
Please Note: Calendar listings do not imply on-air promotion or endorsement.
What won’t be posted?
We reserve the right to decline events that:
- Include profane, vulgar, or graphic language in the title or description
- Promote hate speech, unsafe practices, or misinformation
- Are purely private, invite-only, or outside our coverage area
- Are submitted in duplicate, spammed, or incomplete
Will my event be promoted on-air?
Not automatically. To be considered for radio promotion, you'll need to go through one of the following pathways:
PSA Program (Nonprofits only)
Submit a PSA request. Approved submissions are voiced and aired on WLRH and also added to the Community Calendar.
Interview Request
If your event ties into local arts, culture, or community issues, you may request a feature or interview. Submit your pitch using our online interview request form.
Newsroom Submission
Send your news or press release to news@wlrh.org, and our on-air hosts will consider it for newscast inclusion.
Underwriting
If you're affiliated with a business or promoting a for-profit event, you may consider supporting WLRH through underwriting. Underwriters receive on-air credit announcements that acknowledge their support and may include value-neutral information about their organization or services. Contact our underwriting manager at underwriting@wlrh.org for more information.
Important: Calendar, news, and interview submissions are not guaranteed placement or airtime. All content is reviewed and approved at our editorial discretion.
What about events with “colorful” titles?
We aim to maintain a respectful, all-ages tone in public-facing content. If an event has a graphic or profane title, we may ask to modify the listing or decline it entirely.
What's the difference between a Calendar listing and a PSA?
Why are the standards different?
The FCC prohibits public radio stations from airing promotional content for for-profit entities or events involving sales or pricing in exchange for consideration. Our on-air PSA program must follow strict noncommercial standards, but the Community Calendar lives on our website and allows more flexibility.
You can review relevant FCC guidelines HERE.
How do I submit an event?
